The chicks are growing quickly! We have been learning how to care for the chicks and how to gently handle them. The chicks have been on lots of 'holidays' giving children across the school the opportunity to spend time with them.
We are going to miss them when they return to the farm on Friday☹️

Science Week with GSK
Big Body Blood RunToday Years 3 and 4 were very fortunate to participate in a science week workshop run by GlaxoSmithKline. We learned all about the blood in our bodies, how we make energy, and how the red and white blood cells operate.

On Monday 12th March, Christ Church School hosted a Maths Challenga Day for pupils in Years 5 and 6 from local schools. Six of our pupils attended as well. The day involved solving maths problems, building team skills and deepening our mathematical thinking. The children worked together on a maths A to Z table cloth, they designed and made their own mathematical clocks and solved a problem involving four fours. The day was enjoyed by all.
Yesterday, we were fortunate to have four special visitors. They came to teach us about microbiology! All the children in class had the opportunity to take part in two investigations.
First, we found out how difficult it is to wash your hands thoroughly and get rid of all the germs - Thumbs, fingertips and fingernails being the least washed areas. Next, we investigated how a virus is spread in water. If the water turn red it was infected, if it stayed green it was safe.
Thank you to the team from GSK for two great activities.

International Women's Day
Redrawing the Balance
International Women's Day gave Lewis Class a great opportunity to explore our perception of gender roles in society. We drew pictures of firefighters, surgeons and fighter pilots. We gave them names. After sharing our drawings Miss Mitchell showed the children a video clip of three women who do these jobs. We discussed why most of us had drawn men in our pictures instead of women. We reminded ourselves that in Britain in 2018 girls can follow any career they want and we shouldn't limit our dreams.

Lewis Class celebrated World Book Day today with a lovely selection of new books for our class library, extra 'Reading for Pleasure' time, whole class guided reading of Pippi Longstocking and a fun interactive book quiz in the hall with the rest of our Year 3/4 friends from Fine Class and McGough Class. We also voted for our favourite author...watch this space for the results!
