Charanga Assembly

On Thursday, we held a different type of celebration assembly. Usually we share and celebrate the achievements and efforts made all across the whole curriculum, however this week we focused on Music!

Each class was invited to perform, using the Charanga Musical Unit they have been studying. The children had the opportunity to perform as part of an ensemble and some performed solo.

It was very exciting to hear the different pieces and to witness the progression from reception through to Year 6. The children have gained a lot of experience and skills in the last term and a half.

It was particularly encouraging to see the glockenspiels being used by almost every class and to see, and hear, how well they are being played.

This is the second of these special assemblies we have held and it was just as impressive as the first. I am quite sure the third one, in the summer, will see even more amazing performances and that those who have not yet had their turn to perform will be able meet the very high expectations that have been set this time.

In the words of the children: -

K - I liked standing up to sing it was a bit scary but fun!
R - The glockenspiels sounded really good.
E - I liked listening to all the other classes, but also enjoyed taking part and playing the glockenspiel.
E - Hargreaves singing was really good and funny, some of us joined in!
S - The little children (Carle and McKee) were very brave to sing on stage.
K - I liked it when Mrs Adams used the lolly sticks.

Thank you to all the children and staff for a fantastic and very entertaining assembly.

Don't forget you can log in to Charanga at home.

Glockenspiels

As you already know, from reading their newsletter, the PSA, very kindly agreed to fund 20 Glockenspiels for the school. These arrived in school at the beginning of term.

The need arose, because we have invested in a new way of teaching music and are delivering it through Charanga.

This half term, three years groups were engaging in a unit of study that introduced them to tuned percussion instruments and access to a Glockenspiels was required.

Alongside this, the units covered in the remaining year groups, had an option for using a tuned percussion instrument, for which the glockenspiels were obviously ideal.

As the weeks have gone on, their use has been obvious - a timetable was requested to ensure all classes got a chance to play them, music could be heard when walking past classrooms, a KS1 golden time activity saw children using Glockenspiels as a reward and both Carle and Hargreaves demonstrated their abilities on them in their respective class assembly.

Hopefully, as time progresses, and funds allow, we will be able to purchase other tuned instruments and the children will be able to experience a wider variety, but for now the Glockenspiels are a great hit!

Hargreaves assembly

Hargreaves class want to say "Thank you" to all who joined them for their assembly yesterday and came to Join Me Learn in the ICT suite.

We had lots of fun sharing our learning, both in the assembly and then afterwards. We hope you enjoyed the coding activities, there were some very busy screens with trucks and diggers driving back and forth and spacecraft whizzing around.

We are looking forward watching Potter class and Butterworth class in the next few weeks and seeing what they have been doing in school.
